Just bring plenty of sunscreen. Where you stay in Tahiti depends on what you want to do while you're there. But in general, staying at a hotel on the western coast will prove the best decision. You'll be close enough to the beaches to enjoy watersports and snorkeling or just lie out and tan , but you'll also be within a day trip of Mount Orohena for epic adventuring on land.
Of course, there are few accommodations elsewhere on the island, so the coast is your best bet anyhow. There's no shortage of hotels in Tahiti, but not all have rave reviews.
We do have some suggestions, though. It has good Wi-Fi, an onsite bar, and plenty of lush surroundings. It's a waterfront spa resort that has two onsite pools and amazing views. Since Tahiti is an island, you'll find plenty of mouthwatering seafood during your travels. There will be a lot of fresh fish and tropical fruit like coconut, pineapple, and banana, and you're more likely to find leaf wrappings instead of styrofoam containers.
You'll find fish like tuna, mahi-mahi, bonito, and grouper in Tahiti, notes Tripsavvy. You may also find fish like barracuda, plus octopus, on local menus. And of course, the national dish of Poisson Cru, a sort of ceviche made with raw tuna, is omnipresent. Food is traditionally cooked in an underground oven, too. The good news is that Tahiti has an international airport, so you can fly there from almost anywhere in the world.
This can start the vacation in a bad place; we opted to wear ourselves out and have a blast a Disneyland and the next day took off for Tahiti. Highly recommend this. We visited Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora on this trip. Know Your Budget What You Should Know: There are lots of websites out there that will take your money and lure you to believe you need to spend more money.
Stick with your budget What We Did: There are a lot of choices with places to stay in the South Pacific and costs range We stayed 5 nights in Tahiti with a package deal that included airfare and hotel We upgraded the hotel to an overwater bungalow for all 5 nights We did 3 full days in Tahiti 1 full day in Moorea 1 full day in Bora Bora 3. Night time is around 10 degrees cooler. What We Did: We went in June and the weather was fabulous. You may be able to buy tickets once you arrive, but if they are sold out; you will be limited on options getting there. You can purchase ferry tickets on the day you are going; there are more than 7 trips a day no need to buy ahead of time. Yes, the hought of lying on a beach with an umbrella drink does sound like torture to me.
I did think Tahiti was more of a beachy vacation rather than an adventurous one. The food truck are Roulottes, not roulettes. I went to Tahiti in for 7. It was awesome! I dream of returning some day, this time with my family. They all had their own charms. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Learn how your comment data is processed. Share this: Email. Oh my gosh. Tahiti looks like a dream! I was so excited when we decided to check this one off our bucket list but as I started researching I realised how little I actually knew about Tahiti.
So from our research and our experiences on the island we have round tip the top things you need to know before going to Tahiti! One of the things I noticed when reading up about Tahiti is how often it is interchanged with Bora Bora. Tahiti is actually the name of the largest and most populated island in French Polynesia.
French Polynesia is actually made up of over islands and Tahiti has the capital city of French Polynesia Papeete so has become most well known and a synonym for both Bora Bora and French Polynesia general. Before you book your trip I would recommend research a few of the French Polynesian islands to help you decide do you actually want to go to Tahiti or do you want to go one of the other beautiful French Polynesia islands.
To compare the top three islands in French Polynesia we have written this Tahiti, Bora Bora and Moorea comparison guide! When I first thought about Tahiti I imagined a Paul Gaugin painting come to life and in truth of the three islands we visited it was my least favourite for beaches.
If you are thinking about travelling to French Polynesia for beautiful white sand beaches then Tahiti is probably not the island for you. Moorea in my opinion was the most beautiful for beaches and there are plenty of things to do on Moorea while I enjoyed the waters of Bora Bora.
