At the KEG party at the end of their rushing, Brenda stands by herself in the corner and, after talking to Brandon, heads out.
She goes to the Peach Pit where she bumps into Dylan, who's surprised that Brenda even attempted rush as he couldn't see her doing that. Brenda concedes his point, telling him that she was hoping for the girls to have something to keep them together now that they're in a big college, going in different directions.
Andrea also decides Greek Life isn't for her and the girls decide to create a sorority of their own — the Peach Pit sorority, where they can have meetings to keep updated on each other's lives. Brenda decides she wants a job to go along with college, wanting to get a head start on real life as she worries work will be hard to come by post-degree. She goes on a bunch of interviews, but gets no jobs before finally getting one related to her theatre interests, which turns out to be baby-sitting.
Having declined her Dad's offer of an office job as his work initially, Brenda's misfortune has her accept it after all and her first task is to deliver papers for a business deal to a client of Jim's.
Brenda drops by the freshman pool party and competes in a dance contest with David, which they win. She and Donna push him in the pool and Brenda ends up staying late at the party, forgetting the time. When she sees the papers in her car, she rushes off but doesn't make it in time. She tells Jim what happened and ask that he please not fire her and her words echo Jim's own, leaving him to let Brenda off the hook.
Unenthusiastic at first, Brenda agrees but is pleasantly surprised when she meets Stuart, a handsome year-old. When Brenda returns, she meets a wealthy young-man named Stuart whom Dylan knew as a drug-dealer in times past , and quickly falls in love with him. The couple would get engaged within weeks of their meeting and elope to Las Vegas , causing Dylan and her friends to come and attempt to stop it.
Brenda's non-romantic life also took some hits over the season. When Donna Martin took in a puppy she and Brenda found, they learned it had escaped from an animal-testing lab and were both distraught when the puppy died. Brenda fell in with a group of animal-rights activists and ended up going along with them when they trashed a number of labs, and she got arrested Donna decided at the last minute not to join the group.
After her arrest, the only person in the group to show support for her was Dylan: David Silver questioned her judgment, Andrea angrily accused her of causing damage to labs that didn't test on animals, and Kelly told her that Dylan wasn't her boyfriend anymore and Brenda couldn't go running to him every time she had a problem.
It turned out one of the activists was an undercover FBI agent who offered Brenda a deal for no prison time, because she had not known about nor supported the vandalism. All of Brenda's friends were apologetic for their shoddy treatment of her afterwards.
Brenda would also explore acting during the fourth-season, but this also led to problems: She bungled her first audition and then went over to the director's house to try again. She then got the part, but an unstable student implied she'd slept her way to the role.
Unfortunately, this student was also dating Steve Sanders and he believed her claims, with everyone else more or less refusing to believe Brenda's denials. Steve realized his mistake when the student asked him to attack Brenda so she'd have to miss rehearsals. The student later tried to kill herself, but Brenda and Steve teamed up to save her, and Steve finally made amends by attending Brenda's well-received acting debut.
Following Kelly and Dylan's latest break-up, Brenda eventually learned of a possible romance between Kelly and Brandon, and expressed her blessing.
Another significant event that occurred in the season finale was when Brenda, Jim, and Cindy watched Brandon's meeting with the President. She later spent her last night with Dylan, telling him that she wouldn't be gone forever.
The couple would briefly reconcile in the final scene of the fourth season, although because of Doherty's departure , the character was written out and never reappeared again. Brenda probably has the most in common with Andrea, but the two meet through Brandon and therefore develop a friendship over a longer period of time. In many ways, it's a very intense relationship as they first get close while Brenda tries to save a girl from being raped at West Beverly, leaving Andrea and Brenda with a very mature and intense shared experience.
Brenda makes an effort to include Andrea in the girl group and after about a year Donna, Brenda, Kelly and Andrea are all friends. Brenda and Andrea share their interest in academia, their passion for their interest and futures as well as strong wills and dispositions.
Brenda and Kelly's friendship is one of the most explored on the series, as they both served as female protagonists Kelly being 'upgraded' after Doherty left the series. While the two are very different, they quickly form a kind of 'survival' bond as Brenda is the most grounded person Kelly has ever met in an otherwise over the top life and Kelly is at the center of this new world Brenda finds herself in and can offer advice and direction.
Their differences become apparent to both quickly, but they remain supportive and talk out their conflicts. That is, until Dylan McKay becomes a love interest for both girls. Kelly even admits to Brenda that she asked Dylan out after he and Brenda first started dating. The affair and relationship Kelly and Dylan start two years later changes the girls' friendship permanently, but Brenda makes an effort to have a relationship with Kelly, who most remains jealous of Dylan's strong feelings for Brenda.
For a long time Donna is more of a tag-along who consequently sides with Kelly if Kelly and Brenda fight. It's only once the group comes together that Donna and Brenda get to know each other, but they don't really become close until they spent the summer between their junior and senior year in Paris together. Donna even refers to Brenda as her best friend at the end of their first year at California University and she is the one Brenda spends most of her time with during her freshman year at college.
Dylan is Brenda's first love. They met when Dylan and Brandon become friends. They had a great relationship throughout season 1, however after a pregnancy scare, she broke up with Dylan. Then later on getting back together with him for the rest of season 2. During the summer, Dylan began a short-lived affair with Kelly Taylor and didn't tell Brenda about it. When Brenda discovered what went on between her best friend and boyfriend, it develops into the most popular love triangle on the show with Dylan ultimately choosing Kelly.
At the end of season 4 after Kelly and Dylan break up Brenda asks Dylan to give her a reason to come back, their scene ending with the two of them kissing. Alas, Brenda doesn't come back and even though it's mentioned that Dylan is living with Brenda in London after Perry leaves the show the two are never onscreen at the same time again. Brenda meets Rick while in Paris with Donna and pretends to be a native Parisian, keeping the ruse going for her entire stay there, though disclosing to Rick that she has a boyfriend.
Back in Beverly Hills a few months later she runs into Rick at a video store. While she tries to keep pretending she's visiting her 'American relatives' the Walshes, she can't keep up the charade.
She breaks up with Rick after realizing she still has feelings for Dylan and also realizing that Rick reminds her way too much of her father, and is also much more invested in a serious relationship with Brenda which Rick views as destined to be. Stuart and Brenda were set up by Jim Walsh - a skeptical Brenda didn't want to date a man named Stuart who had to have his father and her father find a date for him [67]. The two hit it off and begin a whirlwind romance and eventual engagement [68].
Overwhelmed with their families opinions on the wedding Brenda's parents wanting them to wait several months or years and Stuart's family wanting to invite hundreds of people and control every aspect of it the two decide to elope to Las Vegas, only telling Brandon of their plans. Word gets out and Brandon and their friends follow them to Vegas, hoping to stop the wedding with the men taking Stuart out for his last night as a single man and making married life sound awful and the girls taking Brenda out and doing the same.
None of the friends stop the wedding, but Brenda herself has second thoughts and after hearing the Justice of the Peace ask if any man or women objects to the reunion, she responds, "I do. Stuart disappears for several episodes, reappearing in time for Valentines Day and an excuse for his absence, but the two start noticing cracks in their relationship when they begin bickering all the time and seeing their differences.

She just gets Dylan and doesn't freak out over every little thing the way that Brenda does. Although Brenda's dad, Jim Walsh James Eckhouse isn't thrilled with their relationship, it's definitely true that Brenda is able to show Dylan that it's possible to have a happy family life.
She comes from a home with a brother and two parents, and he's able to observe that, especially since he's good friends with Brandon Jason Priestley. This is something that Brenda can offer Dylan that Kelly can't.
That seems to be another point in Brenda's favor. If you had a friend who had a relationship like Dylan and Brenda's, you would definitely tell them to let it go and say goodbye. Kelly is a better love interest for Dylan because Dylan and Brenda break up way too many times.
In the second season, Brenda thinks it's for the best if she and Dylan end their relationship because she worries that she's pregnant and she feels that it's all too much. If they were meant to be, they would be able to help each other through bad and good times instead of feeling like it's overwhelming and they need time apart.
When Brenda meets Dylan, he's a friend of her brother Brandon's and she likes his cool vibe. As they start a serious relationship, it seems that Brenda helps Dylan realize that he needs to grow up. He's used to not having a care in the world and going anywhere and doing anything that he wants since he lives in a hotel and has zero parental guidance or supervision.
But since Brenda comes from a good family and she wants to be in a happy, healthy relationship, she helps him understand that he's capable of loving someone and also being loved. Since Kelly and Dylan date beyond high school and get back together in season four, it feels like they have a more grown-up relationship. Brenda and Dylan's love story is filled with immature drama and always feels like it's one bad argument away from a break-up. It can feel pretty tiring to watch them.
For that reason, it feels like Kelly is the better love interest for Dylan, and they seem really good together. Brenda and Dylan continue their romance, with Dylan doing better and handling being a recovering alcoholic, with the support of Brenda and her family.
They spend time hanging out with their friends and going to parties, like when Brenda's cousin visits [15] and even dress up together for Halloween, which is unusual for Dylan, who otherwise isn't much for group activities. Brenda suggests the two try to imbue their relationship with cultural exploits as she finds things are a little too focused on "one area" of their relationship and they attend classical violin concerts, as they share an interest in arts.

They don't want Brenda to become too focused on Dylan and neglect her school work. This mounts to a situation when Brenda comes home late after promising not to and is denied a trip to Baja with Dylan.
After she sneaks out and goes after all, her parents find out and are livid. Although Brenda tries to mend fences with her father, he and Dylan get into a fight as Jim metaphorically rejects Dylan as his surrogate son and something is permanently severed for Dylan. The destruction of Dylan's feeling of home with the Walsh family hurts his strong bond with both Brenda and Brandon, and he begins to pull away and closer to a superficial way of life.
This cements itself in his willingness to trick Brenda into going to Paris by making a deal with Jim behind her back [28] , and Dylan carelessly taking advice from Kelly to lie about his father's ineptitude as a parent. Dylan starts flirting with Kelly and spending time with her at the beach, which she quickly reciprocates.
Meanwhile, Brenda, possibly feeling this distance and weary following the issues with her parents, finds herself swept up by the charm, wonder and freedom of Paris and she meets an American college student, who thinks she's French.
To have a bit of fun, Brenda pretends to be French, but the random flirtation turns into more as she gets to know Rick and develops feelings for him. Brenda feels caught off guard, as Paris is a sort of dreamscape and she seems to not have been expecting to feel anything real — and for another guy.
Dylan squashes all of Kelly's qualms with her friendship with Brenda, furthering the notion that he's done with those ties, possibly even subconsciously wishing to hurt Brenda and her family. All the same, Brenda returns refreshed by Paris and when she sees Dylan, she's happy and he seems to be conflicted as he still loves her.
Brenda now senses this in him, possibly due to her own experience. As they get back to school, they are in the same class as Kelly, which Brenda's thrilled about in a cruel twist, while Dylan is bemused. Dylan hosts a back-to-school barbecue at his house where he and Brenda are having fun and are happy together.
Dylan's not particularly invested in the idea of college and finally tells Brenda he's not going. Brenda's in disbelief at this and Dylan tells her not to plan her life around whether they're together.
She feels them starting to walk down separate paths and, when talking with her parents, Brenda calls her Dad out on being happy about this. He assures her that he isn't, but that it's realistic that they're very different and states that Dylan isn't ambitious on his own behalf. This seems to have Brenda considering their relationship from a new perspective. Brenda delves into school spirit while Dylan remains apathetic about his future. Although he's unenthusiastic, Dylan attends the dance Brenda organises with her.
Between her growing more distant from Dylan and her time with Rick in Paris, she finds herself drawn towards him. Keeping up the fake accent, they go on a date until Brenda can't lie any longer and apologises.
Rick isn't mad, but interested to get to know Brenda Walsh. In spite of herself, Brenda sees Rick and they kiss. She makes the decision to break up with Dylan, who seems hurt, but not surprised and somewhat indifferently hostile to Brenda and their relationship. Immediately after Brenda leaves, Dylan goes to see Kelly and makes out with her. While Kelly feels uncertain starting to date because of Brenda, Dylan keeps pursuing it until she agrees to go on a date with him.
Brenda goes on a real date with Rick and is livid when they happen upon Dylan and Kelly on a date, interrupting them as they plan to go to Dylan's to have sex. Rick, as the outsider, tries to call for decorum and maturity to no avail.
Brenda implicitly calls Kelly a slut and Dylan gets angry with Brenda, saying that she dumped him, which Kelly notices.
Back at Dylan's house, Kelly rejects being with him and Dylan leaves town. Brenda sees the similarities between Rick and her father and maybe feels like they're not a match, or at least that it's too soon to start something serious again.
Brenda's not certain of anything other than she wants to talk with him, and that she's cold to and feels betrayed by Kelly. After his sojourn with someone who only cares about money, Dylan sobers to his life back home and returns. Dylan and Brenda spend Thanksgiving apart as Dylan's hosting his father on a visit from prison and Brenda spends the holidays with her family.
It quickly falls apart as Brenda and Dylan kiss, and Brenda later catches him kissing Kelly at his house. The three of them get into a fight and stop talking as they're going to hand out presents to kids in a poor school district. Donna manages to get everyone to make up by pointing out this event is about something real and the three make up. They turn out to be from the Princeton School and 14 years old. Cindy makes Brenda and Kelly go on the dates so as to not be rude to the boys, while Dylan tries to decide and is distracted by Brandon and Steve's drag racing, where he saves Steve's life. They hang out at the Peach Pit afterwards as Brenda and Kelly enter with their dates. They enjoy themselves despite the circumstances with Dylan, while he has daydreams of what his life would be like with either girls.
When Dylan's father is released from prison, Jack McKay decides to host a return party and Dylan invites his friends, out of whom only Kelly shows up. Brenda wants to go at first, but agrees not to when Jim tells her that McKay senior has mob connections. Although she blames it on her father, Brenda confides in Brandon that she was relieved she wasn't allowed to go, a relief Brandon echoes as he had to work.
Brenda tries to talk to Dylan the following day, but Dylan's indifferent.
