Where is the paeroa bottle

As I was a foreman at Lee Bros I was given the task to build the bottle. Each concrete ring was 3ft high. On the top of the fourth concrete ring, the neck of the bottle was constructed of vertical steel rods and wrapped in half inch chicken netting, and then plaster was applied to complete this stage.

At the base of the neck, a door was fitted to allow access into the bottle. The Paeroa Jaycees had erected this to play music at Christmas.

I've done that at least half a dozen times with different MPs. Some people like to take photos at ours and the big bottle. The bottle was moved to its present site 20 metres back into the Ohinemuri Reserve in to enable photographers to avoid dodging traffic in the middle of State Highway 2. Kristie Taukiri says people pick lemons so they can have a lemon from Paeroa, and she thinks it works well where it is.

The bottle began from no-so-humble beginnings as a replica space rocket for Paeroa's Christmas promotion. Paeroa was to 'rocket into Christmas', records the late local curator and historian of the Paeroa and District Museum, Graham Watton. The undulating track winds its way past pioneering history and lush farmland, following an historic railway. The Windows Walkway would have to rate as one of the most stunning in the area with windows blasted through the gold mining tunnels providing stunning views into the Waitewheta river. The trail offers a range of short riding options or for those wishing to make a weekend of it the entire trail can be done over three days.
