Why hasnt my facebook updated

It's a total shift in how Facebook looks and works on desktop and mobile. It even introduces a site-wide dark mode. Don't have a meltdown just yet. It's been many years since a massive design change came to Facebook, so this news is both welcomed and much-needed, even if it's jarring. At the F8 conference , Facebook executives announced the social network plans to push out a massive redesign called the "New Facebook". It's an interface update that will place a bigger emphasis on Groups and Events - two of the biggest reasons people visit Facebook on a daily basis.

This subsequently also means that the News Feed will be featured way less in the "New Facebook". Both the desktop website and the mobile app will automatically receive the update, hopefully making Facebook easier to navigate while also modernising its look for the new decade. Facebook described it as a cleaner design, with more of an all-white look and even a dark mode option. Visually, Facebook's redesign is carried throughout the desktop and mobile apps. It's a cleaner, brighter, more contemporary Facebook.

That's where you can determine what to see and what not to see. Select all your friends and people or pages from where you want to see updates from here. Before you uninstall the app, repeat process mentioned in point 9 below to make sure that all corrupted files are removed. Go back to Play or App Store and download and install the app again. Sign back in and check if you can scroll through the news feed again.

You will see Install instead of Open in the screenshot above. What happens when there is a bug found in the Facebook app? The developers release a patch. Check if there is an update available in the Play Store or App Store and if yes, download and update immediately. You will see Update instead of Open if there is one.

That should resolve any known issues and give you peace of mind. That should not be an issue because smartphones can now set date and time automatically using your SIM card and carrier network. It can be an issue if you are traveling to foreign lands where time is different. Either way, you should check if the date and time are correct on your phone. Difference in time and date on your phone compared to that of the app's servers can break quite a few apps.

It should take just a few moments. If there is a difference, set it to the correct time and date and reload to check if Facebook News Feed is updating or not. Smartphone technology has come a long way and even budget smartphones are now capable of doing so much more.

In case you are rocking a smartphone on the lower end, it may be possible that there is not enough RAM or CPU power to support the Facebook app.

It can be resource intensive at times. Predictably, clearing my News Feed of ads made for a much better experience. I was shocked at how many ads—especially for the same companies—had actually populated my News Feed. For months, I've been haunted by companies like Everlane and Glossier, which ostensibly target the same young, female-identifying, urban-dwelling people over and over again. Blocking them cleared out room in my News Feed for news sources, funny meme pages, and even some posts from actual friends.

So my final step was to prune my News Feed of my past. The other day an acquaintance shared a racist story about the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict into my News Feed. It took about a minute of profile-picture stalking to register that I knew the poster from a Spanish class I took in high school. I unfollowed him. In fact, Facebook has a tool that lets you easily unfollow people and Pages in your News Feed.

It even arranges profiles by how many times their posts show up, meaning you can axe the most prolific posters first if you want to.

Unfollowing, I would argue, is one of the great pleasures left on the internet. But you do push them out of your brain, which is more consequential than it might seem. I also discovered that Facebook keeps track of when you unfollow people, and gives you the opportunity to invite them back into your feed. It informed me, for example, that I had unfollowed a man I'll call Joe, whom I had met at a couple of concerts when I was For years before I unfollowed him, Joe was a constant, passive figure in my life, at least on Facebook, even though we had never been close.

What those notes do not mention is Facebook's decision to remove the "News Feed" button from the main screen of the apps. Tapping this button allowed users to access the "Most Recent" button, which shows posts in chronological order. Unfortunately, this isn't a permanent fix. We found that we had to select this option whenever we re-opened the Facebook app. For the latest videos on gadgets and tech, subscribe to our YouTube channel.

Till recently, users of Facebook's Android and iOS apps could quickly arrange posts on their News Feed in a chronological order.
